This collection of Ogden Family genealogy is believed to have been compiled by John Dodd Canfield between 1865-1900. John Dodd Canfield was a local Morristown lawyer and historian who died in 1910. Many of the pages in these folders bear the initials J.D.C.. In 1877, he was appointed by Mayor Theodore Ayers to the committee to establish the date of the founding of Morristown. He donated a significant amount of local historical material to the Morristown Library during his lifetime.

A large portion of the genealogical research compiled in this collection was conducted by William Ogden Wheeler, Lawrence Van Alstyne, and Anna Vermilye in the late 1800's.

 Scope and Content of the Ogden Family Papers

This collection includes handwritten and typed genealogical information concerning the descendants of John Ogden of Elizabeth Town (Newark), New Jersey, and the Odgen families of New York and Connecticut.

Arrangement of the Ogden Family Papers

Most of the ten folders of this collection are not dated. The few dated materials are from the early twentieth century.
