Samuel J. Faiello was born in 1934 to Carmine Faiello (1910-1984) and Anna Faiello(1913-1993) of Newark, New Jersey. Faiello grew up in Newark and by 1963 had moved to Madison, New Jersey. He was an established fiction writer, both in short story and novel form, as well as a renowned publicist and president of Shore Water Company. He earned his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and his Master’s from Columbia University, both in journalism. When he was first publishing his short stories, he worked as an account manager for Joseph Mayers and Company in Newark, which would later become the Mayers and Faiello public relations firm.

His short stories include “The Art of the Pursuit,” which in 1961 was his first published work. He was also a satirist who authored a coloring book mocking John F. Kennedy’s presidency in 1963 and published other works satirizing American involvement in China during World War II, as well as the New Jersey state budget in the 1960’s. Faiello also worked as an executive editor for Morris County Magazine from the Spring 1982 edition to the Winter 1987 edition.

With Mayers and Faiello, Inc, Faiello worked on several government and legislative campaigns, including six successful legislation campaigns such as the 1966 campaign against the proposed state income tax and part of the Republican gubernatorial campaign of New Jersey State Senator Wayne Dumont, Jr. in 1965. For his success in the field of advertising and public relations, Faiello has been awarded two Golden Scroll awards by the Public Relations Society of America, New Jersey Chapter.

Faiello also worked for the United Nations as a public relations consultant in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. In 1972, he received an award from UN Ambassador John Scali on behalf of UNICO, an Italian-American service organization. He was honored by the Italian American Heritage Club of Hunterdon County in 2013.

Sam left the public relations business in 1984 to take over his father’s public water utility after his death. Faiello began writing and publishing novels under the name Samuel Jay. His first novel, Shadow of Guilt, was published in 2004 and he has published two more novels since.
